This type of Cabbage can plant in Pot and can endure our Hot Weather
With a compact habit with few wasted outer leaves, Cabbage 'Jersey Wakefield' can planted closely making it ideal for smaller gardens. The firm, conical, pale green hearts are tender and flavoursome - delicious used raw in salads and coleslaw. This heritage variety is fine summer cabbage that stands well throughout summer. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 40cm (16").
Gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 - 10 days before planting cabbage in moist, rich, well drained soil in full sun. A fertile soil is essential as cabbages require high levels of nitrogen. Prepare the soil in early spring by adding plenty of well rotted farmyard manure to the soil to improve its structure and fertility. Apply lime to acid soils to reduce the acidity and lessen the risk of clubroot.
