- Strawberry seed planting methods and precautions
- 1. The first step is to accelerate germination. Generally, strawberry seeds can be stored for about 2 years at room temperature. In order to increase the germination rate of seeds, the seeds can be wrapped in gauze before sowing, soaked in gauze for 24 hours, and subjected to low temperature treatment at 0℃～3℃ for about 15 days in the refrigerator to break the dormancy of the seeds, and then sown. The germination rate is higher. . If you are impatient, you can directly use the following method to accelerate the germination of the seeds without freezing. However, if the dormancy is not broken by low temperature, the germination rate may decrease. The method is as follows: first pour the seeds into 50-60℃ warm water and soak, stirring constantly, until the water temperature drops to about 25℃ and stop. After soaking for 2 to 3 hours, remove and rub gently with your hands until the seed coat is clean and shiny. Then rinse it with clean water and cover it with several layers of wet gauze. (This is because when the strawberry is being seeded, there is strawberry acid on it, so this must be washed off.) Place it at 25-30°C for inducing germination. Soak the gauze with warm water three times a day (morning, lunch, and evening) to keep the seeds in a moist environment. Plant seeds after 60-70% of the seeds are exposed.
- 2. Put the nutrient soil in a larger pot, pour the water thoroughly, wait for about 1 hour to absorb it before sowing, and mix the absorbed nutrient soil and soil disinfectant into the flower pot.
- 3. Next is sowing. The strawberry seeds are smaller, so they must be fine when sowing. Sprinkle the seeds evenly on the soil, spray the seeds with a watering can to let the seeds absorb some moisture, then cover the seeds with about 3 mm nutrient soil, and just touch the watering can.
- 4. It is best to place the seeded seeds indoors in a sunny place. Afterwards, do not dry without watering, and then water thoroughly. No fertilizer can be used during the germination of the seeds.
- 5. When the seedlings have 2 true leaves, divide them into pots, and when they have 3 to 5 leaves, they can be planted in the ground.
- 6. Small seedlings should pay attention to moisturizing. The leaf surface can be sprayed with a small watering can. Seedlings that are about to fall due to the big water flow, sometimes get stuck in the soil, and they often become unsupported dudes.
- Generally, when the second pair of true leaves emerge, light fertilizer can be applied. At this time, nitrogen fertilizer is mainly used to make the leaves green and strong, and then slowly add compound fertilizer to supplement all aspects of nutrition.
- 7. Once the strawberry starts to bear fruit and turns red, be careful not to let the bird peck at it, because it is easy for the bird to spot red things. Put a net on the strawberries, or use a wooden basket to cover the strawberries. But if you have a greenhouse at home, you can move the strawberries to the greenhouse, which would be better. Strawberries are also easier to bear fruit. After the strawberry fruiting period has passed, they can be moved out of the greenhouse and placed outside for the winter. From a certain point of view, if the strawberry plants are subjected to some frost, it will be more conducive to increase the yield in the coming year.
- Matters needing attention: temperature and humidity. Generally, potted strawberries require a temperature of 20-25°C, and the room temperature in winter should be kept above 15°C. Flower pots should be placed in a ventilated and sunny place, and the pot soil should always be kept moist.
