Do not sharpen knives back and forth, just pull it back with one direction.
Do not use the sharpener to sharpen ceramic and serrated blades.

Using Guide:
The correct way to sharpen a knife is sharpening in a single direction, insert the blade into the slot then pull it back (do NOT move backward and forward).
Slot 1 (Ceramic Rod, Sharpening SCISSORS):
Open the scissors and hold the handle tightly, then put the scissors blades into the slot 1.
Clamp the ceramic roll with the scissors, then pull the scissor backward for several times.
Slot 2 (Tungsten Alloy Steel, Coarse Sharpening):
Use this only if the knife blade is very blunt.
Using small downward force, then pull it backward for 3~5 times.
Slot 3 (600# Emery, Medium Sharpening):
Always finish off with this step to remove burrs that result from the re-edging and rough honing process.
Without using pressure to pull the blade backward for 5 times.
Slot 4 (Ceramic Rod, Fine Sharpening):
Hold sharpener on sturdy surface. Lightly pull knife through the slot then pull it backward for 3~5 times or until it sharpened.
Recommended:
Sharpening with SLOT-4(Ceramic) 3~5 times when the knife is hard to cut the streaky pork with skin.
Sharpening with SLOT-3(Emery) 3~5 times then with SLOT-4(Ceramic) 3~5 times when the knife is hard to cut the lean meat.
Sharpening with SLOT-2(Tungsten Steel), then SLOT-3(Emery), finally with SLOT-4(Ceramic), each 3~5 times when the knife is hard to cut the fruit and vegetable.
